The Government is considering paying all benefits monthly to bring payment systems in line with the way people are paid when in work and to simplify payment.
Debtaid think this is a great idea. Various benefits are paid at different intervals at the moment often creating confusion.
A common mistake is taking a weekly amount (like child benefit), multiplying it by 4 and thinking this is a monthly amount. The correct calculation would be to take the weekly amount, multiply it by 52 (number of weeks there are in the year) and divide it by 12 (months that are in a year). This gives the correct average monthly amount.
The disappointing part is the changes by the Government could take 10 years to put into place.
